Pot Selection

  • Size: Start with 25–30 cm diameter. Repot every 2–3 years, increasing by 5 cm
  • Material: Terracotta (breathable, heavy), plastic (lightweight, retains moisture), or glazed ceramic (decorative)
  • Drainage: Essential — minimum 2–3 drainage holes. Add 3–5 cm of gravel at the bottom
  • Self-watering pots: Excellent for jasmine — maintains consistent moisture

Potting Mix

Use a well-draining mix: 40% peat moss or coco coir + 30% perlite + 20% compost + 10% orchid bark. pH 6.0–7.0. Add slow-release fertilizer pellets at planting.

Indoor Growing Tips

Light Requirements

Place in a south-facing window with 6+ hours direct sunlight. If light is insufficient, supplement with a grow light (full spectrum, 12–14 hours/day). Rotate the pot weekly for even growth.

Temperature & Humidity

  • Daytime: 20–27°C (68–80°F). Night: 15–18°C (59–65°F)
  • Avoid placing near heating/AC vents or cold drafts
  • Humidity: 50–60%. Use a pebble tray with water or a humidifier
  • In winter, move to a cooler room (10–15°C) for dormancy and better spring blooming

Watering Indoor Jasmine

Water when the top 2 cm of soil feels dry. Typically once a week in summer, every 10–14 days in winter. Use room-temperature water. Ensure excess water drains completely — never let pots sit in saucers of water.

Outdoor Container Growing

Container-grown jasmine thrives on balconies, patios, and terraces in warm climates.

Summer Care

  • Water daily in hot weather (containers dry out faster than ground)
  • Move to partial shade if temperatures exceed 35°C
  • Feed every 2 weeks with liquid fertilizer (10-10-10) diluted to half strength
  • Mist leaves in the evening for humidity

Winter Care (Cold Climates)

  • Bring indoors before first frost (when night temps drop below 10°C)
  • Place in the coolest room with bright light
  • Reduce watering — let soil dry slightly between waterings
  • Resume normal care in spring after last frost

Trellis & Support

Climbing species (J. officinale, J. polyanthum) need support in containers.

🔚

Trellis

Classic support. Choose decorative metal or bamboo. Minimum 60 cm tall.

⭕

Plant Hoop

Circular support that fits inside the pot. Clean, modern look.
