Farming & Cultivation
The art and science of commercial jasmine agriculture
Farm Establishment
Land Selection
Well-drained loamy soil (pH 6.0โ7.5), access to clean irrigation water, 6+ hours sunlight, gentle slope (2โ5%), proximity to processing facilities (within 50 km).
Propagation & Planting
From Cuttings: Take 15โ20 cm semi-hardwood cuttings. Dip in rooting hormone (IBA 3,000โ5,000 ppm). Plant in sandy medium. Roots develop in 4โ8 weeks.
Spacing: J. sambac: 1.0โ1.5m (6,000โ10,000 plants/ha). J. grandiflorum: 1.5โ2.0m (2,500โ4,500 plants/ha).
First-Year Establishment
Remove all flower buds. Water 2โ3 times/week. Apply NPK 20:20:20 at 5g/plant monthly. Maintain weed-free zone of 50 cm radius.
Year 2+: Production Phase
Commercial-quality flowers in year 2โ3. Full production by year 4โ5. Can continue 15โ25 years with proper management.
Irrigation Management
Drip Irrigation Recommended
Most efficient method. Reduces water use by 40โ60%. Allows precise fertigation. System: 2โ4 L/hr per emitter, 2 emitters per plant.
Furrow Irrigation
Traditional channels between rows. Less efficient (50โ60%) but lower capital cost.
| Growth Stage | Water (mm/week) | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Establishment | 25โ35 | 3โ4 times/week |
| Vegetative Growth | 20โ30 | 2โ3 times/week |
| Bud Formation | 30โ40 | Daily |
| Flowering Peak | 25โ35 | Every 1โ2 days |
Nutrient Management
| Nutrient | Annual (kg/ha) | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Nitrogen (N) | 120โ180 | Split: 40% basal, 30% vegetative, 30% flowering |
| Phosphorus (PโOโ ) | 60โ80 | Basal application |
| Potassium (KโO) | 100โ150 | Split: 50% vegetative, 50% flowering |
